Passport Release 3.6.2 All Rights Reserved. Copyright (c) 1995 - 1999 by: Dynamic Concepts, Inc. Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 USA 1. Introduction =============== In the past, the Passport software has been distributed as part of each individual client product which uses it, such as uniBasic, IQ, etc. Starting with version 3.3, the Passport software is distributed as a separate product. Release of the Passport as a separate product serves several purposes: o Makes it easier to determine which version of the Passport software is being installed. o Makes it easier for the same Passport software to be used with upcoming DCI products. o Helps eliminate the possible redundant installations which can occur when two or more DCI products are installed on one system. This can be especially troublesome if one installs a second or third DCI product and that product happens to contain an older release of the Passport software, because the older release will overwrite a newer release. Therefore, it is DCI's intention to begin the process of removing the Passport as an integral part of each product, and to distribute it as an independent product. Although it can be ordered separately, a copy of the Passport software will still continue to be shipped together with all DCI products which require it. 2. Installation =============== To install the Passport software: from root, copy the distributions contents into a suitable working directory (e.g. /tmp) and run "ppinstall". For example: # cd /tmp # cpio -ivcdu
